Community 'in the dark' over post office closure

A Welsh MP has criticised the handling of a local post office closureAn MP has criticised the decision to keep a community in Wales "in the dark" other the closure of a post office.

A Welsh Liberal Democrat MP has condemned plans that have seen residents in Talybont left "in the dark" over a post office closure.

Mark Williams has criticised authorities for informing the community about the closure around 12 months after it was initially put forward as part of the Network Change programme.

The closure of the local branch could lead many people in the area to seek post office alternatives for their parcel delivery needs.

"Throughout this process the postmistress and local residents have been kept totally in the dark about when the post office would finally close, and the lack of information has been extremely frustrating," the MP explained.

"It's bad enough that people in Talybont have lost their post office, but it's even worse that they have been treated so poorly."
The Press and Journal recently reported that a post office in the Scottish town of Cullen could be closed in the near future.
