Charity concerned at Post and Go machines

Some elderly people may struggleCharity claims the lederly prefer a more personal experience.

Age Concern and Help the Aged have raised concerns at the introduction of automatic Post and Go machines, which allow customers to send parcels and letters without having to interact with Post Office staff.

The self-service kiosks are designed to make sending parcels a quicker and easier process, but the charity claims the elderly could be confused by them, the Daily Mail reports.

A spokesperson for the body claims that the elderly prefer to interact with people rather than machines, something which may encourage them to use Post Office alternatives.

"It's not that the elderly cannot use computers - they just tend to appreciate the personal touch more than others. We're concerned machines are being introduced without adequate support for people," the representative told the newspaper.

Bishop Auckland MP Helen Goodman recently hit out at plans to introduce a mobile service at Byers Green Village Hall in Bowes, Teeside, for one hour a week, claiming it will not meet the parcel delivery needs of the local community.
