Centro seeks alternative parcel delivery services

Centro is looking elsewhereCentro has put out a tender for a private delivery firm to meet its needs.

A West Midlands firm has dropped the services of the Royal Mail following the national strikes which have crippled the postal service in recent weeks.

Centro, the West Midlands Integrated Transport Authority, has decided to seek the services of alternative parcel delivery providers, which could include Parcel2Go.com, to ensure its letters and parcels reach their destinations.

The public body has put out a tender asking for a private delivery company to take care of its parcel delivery needs for an initial two-year period and has become the latest company to sever ties with the Royal Mail.

"Centro is seeking to contract with a supplier for postal services for a period of two years (with an option to extend for a third year). There is a split of 77 per cent first class, 23 per cent second class, with post being mainly made up of letters, large letters and packets," the tender states.

Online retailer Amazon became one of the first companies to seek alternative parcel delivery services following the announcement of national postal strikes, with a representative saying the firm had to ensure that customers received their goods as soon as possible.
