Canadians are embracing social media.
Canadians are perhaps more likely than most to order a parcel delivery online, with some of the world's highest levels of internet penetration.
Social media is also gaining significant ground, with nearly 60 per cent of internet users visiting social networking sites like Faceboook, Twitter or Foursquare, according to a new report from eMarketer.
"Canadians readily adopt social network activities, often at rates higher than users in the US, but gaining the trust of users on a social network is a brand manager's biggest obstacle," commented Mike Froggatt, eMarketer research analyst and author of the new report.
By the end of 2010, the report predicts over 15 million internet users in the country to be visiting social media sites once a month at least.
Social media penetration will increase from 59 per cent this year to 68 per cent in 2014, the report estimates, with 18.4 million people logging into Facebook and the like.
The news comes after a study from Bacardi showed that around three-quarters of Canadians check their social networks first thing in the morning and last thing at night.
