Small eBay sellers may have an edge when using social media.

Creating a strong social media presence may be one of the best ways of marketing an eBay business.

Small businesses, such as those that operate on eBay with parcel delivery services, are at an advantage over bigger corporations, it is claimed.

Marketing Magazine features editor Nicola Clark believes that small businesses can avoid being "faceless" brands and can engage more actively with potential customers.

She suggests that big brands have to create a community on site such as Twitter or Facebook, whereas that community is already there with smaller enterprises.

Large corporations such as Coca Cola, Ms Clark adds, have their Twitter feeds staffed by a big PR agency.

"I follow some of my favourite shops on Twitter and it's people that you know, who have a personality and there's a genuine community there," she explained.

Bloomberg reports that Facebook's biggest advertisers have boosted advertising by "at least ten-fold" in the last year as the network hit the half-billion user mark.
