Bristol to see Royal Mail strike on Saturday

Royal Mail workers plan further strike actionCWU members in Bristol and Somerset are planning industrial action for Saturday.

Some 900 Royal Mail workers in the Bristol and Somerset region are planning to begin industrial action on Saturday (August 8th).

The members of the Communication Workers Union (CWU) are based in 15 local centres and are taking part in the one-day strike over pay terms, job security and cuts to service.

Speaking to the BBC about the cuts, David Wilsher, of Bristol & District CWU, said: "There is no logic in these new plans. Mail will be delivered later and later in the day and this will be bad for the customers and hand work to Royal Mail's competitors."

A spokesperson for the Royal Mail condemned the action, saying that modernisation to the service is "much-needed" and such changes have already been made in a number of regions without issue.

The Hunts Post reports that Royal Mail staff in Huntingdon are threatening to strike between 06:00 and 09:00 BST on Friday morning (August 7th) due to changes to service which the CWU claims could put job security at risk.
