Talks ebtween Royal Mail and the CWU have yielded a breakthrough.Postal strikes set to take place today and on Monday have been called off following last-ditch talks between Royal Mail bosses and Communication Workers Union representatives.A third round of industrial action, set to involve 121,000 Royal Mail workers, was due to be the most disruptive yet but discussions held last night saw the two sides agree to a "period of calm" until a long-term solution can be found.TUC general secretary Brendan Barber said that the move is important as it will avoid a large amount of chaos over the festive period."Royal Mail will now be free of disruption up to and including the Christmas period. I am in no doubt that the lack of trust between unions and management has been a barrier to an agreement being reached at an earlier stage," he stated.During the strikes, alternative parcel delivery providers have seen increased volumes of business, with Parcel2Go.com sending 32,000 parcels last week compared to the usual 22,000.Written by Mark MooreArticle Added: 06/11/2009 09:28:52
