Postal workers in Bolton have held a protest against the proposed closure of a sorting office in the town.

Efforts to close a sorting office in Bolton have gained a strong response from local postal workers.

Royal Mail staff marched for three hours on Sunday (May 24th) to highlight their stance against the proposals to shut the Farnworth centre.

According to This is Lancashire, the closure of the building would lead to around 400 workers losing their jobs and also could encourage people in the area to seek Post Office alternatives.

Talking to the website, an unnamed protestor said: "The public will have to travel two hours to collect packages. What about the old ladies?

"It is a bus and a train ride, then a 15 minute walk away in Horwich. And delivery times will be later too."

Last week, the Press and Journal reported that a local authority in the Outer Hebrides is against plans to cut services in the area.
