Bakewell Post Office could close

The contract expires in SeptemberThe future of Bakewell Post Office is unclear.

Residents in the Derbyshire town of Bakewell may have to use Post Office alternatives for their parcel delivery needs, as the local branch could close in the near future.

The outlet could shut its doors when the contract expires in September, with the company in charge not planning on renewing the franchise, Bakewell Today reported.

Pam Russell, mayor of Bakewell, said that the area has a high population of people over the age of 65 and the closure will have a massive impact on their lives.

"The Post Office is very important to Bakewell. We haven't got another in the town as we lost the one on Moorhall. This Post Office serves 21,000 people, including people from the nearby villages and rural areas," she told the newspaper.

People from the Staffordshire village of Hednesford may have to use Post Office alternatives for their parcel delivery needs, as the local branch on Market Street is moving across town, the Express and Star reported.
