Ash impacts parcel delivery firms

Volcano causes problems for parcel delivery servicesThe volcanic eruption in Iceland has had an impact on parcel delivery services in the UK and Europe.

A number of parcel delivery services have been heavily hit by the volcanic ash cloud floating towards the UK from Iceland.

The ash cloud is the result of an eruption under a glacier in the Eyjafjallajoekull region in the country and has now started to fall to the ground in parts of Scotland.

Both TNT and DHL have experienced delays with their courier delivery services. TNT revealed that they are being hit by delays of as much as 24 hours, the BBC reported. As well as this, the firm has been forced to transfer some of its parcel deliveries from air to road, the source also noted.

Since the volcanic eruption, flights in and out of the UK have been cancelled in disruption not seen even post-September 11th.

Television reports from airports show deserted check-in desks and huge queues as passengers try and get refunds on their flights or secure a transfer onto another service.
