Amazon looking to Royal Mail alternatives

Amazon is putting a contingency plan in placeAmazon wants to ensure that its parcels reach their customers.

Online retailer Amazon is searching for alternative parcel delivery services over fears the Royal Mail strike could seriously disrupt deliveries in the run-up to the festive period.

The firm is putting in place a contingency plan which would ensure that customers receive their goods on time.

More than 120,000 Royal Mail staff in the Communication Workers Union (CWU) are expected to vote in favour of a national strike over pay, jobs and plans to modernise the services.

The potential threat this strike poses has left Amazon no alternative but to seek alternative parcel delivery services, a spokesman for the company said.

"We have not cancelled any long-tern contracts with the Royal Mail … However, with the possibility of strike action in the near future, we have been working on contingency measures with our other carriers," the representative said.

The CWU is expected to announce the results of its ballot on a national strike this afternoon.
