Online retailer Amazon has announced its sales and profits increased during the first three months of this year.The world's biggest online retailer Amazon has announced that its sales increased during the first quarter of 2009.According to its latest figures, the firm's profits jumped 24 per cent during the first three months of 2009 to $177 million (£121 million), which will have resulted in an increased amount of worldwide parcel delivery to fulfil the additional orders.The firm announced it had experienced a seven per cent growth in media products including books and movies, while sales of electronic equipment and other items increased by 38 per cent over the three month period.Jeff Bezos, chief executive officer of Amazon, said in a conference call: "We've gotten better every year, but there is still a lot of improvement that can be made."Everywhere we look, we find that we're doing every operation in suboptimal ways."A study by Javelin Strategy & Research recently estimated the consumer spending online will increase by eight per cent over the second quarter of 2009.Article Added: 24/04/2009 16:10:38
