Amazon acquires new iPhone shopping tool

Amazon to utilise new search toolAmazon has acquired start-up firm SnapTell, which has developed an advanced online shopping tool.

Leading online retailer Amazon has acquired a new business which makes it easier for iPhone users to buy products over the internet.

The firm's purchase of Seattle-based company SnapTell means that iPhone users can take a picture of a product and then get instantly connected to the online store to identify and purchase it.

It is hoped the purchase of the application can compliment Amazon's own similar product, as SnapTell's version uses software to match items compared to the human reliance of the site's existing system.

The new technology could make it easier for iPhone users to buy items from Amazon quicker, which could lead to an increase in parcel delivery services needed to fulfil the orders.

Online auction site eBay recently celebrated its tenth anniversary and data from the company claims that over 960 million items have been placed on the site during the period.
