A huge post box is set to travel across the UK for three months to gain public support for protests against the privatisation of the Royal Mail.People across the UK could be greeted by the sight of a giant 20-foot post box which is touring the country to draw attention towards the government's plans to sell off the Royal Mail.Starting at John O Groats on May 5th, the giant structure will travel across the UK for 12 weeks alongside a seven-foot postcard, stopping at icons across the country including Blackpool Tower, the Giant's Causeway and Stone Henge.The tour aims to gain public support for to Communication Workers Union's (CWU) protests against government plans to privatise the Royal Mail which could see consumers in the UK looking to find Post Office alternatives for their parcel delivery needs.Bill Hayes, CWU general secretary, said privatisation "would be a financial and political disaster".He added: "Privatisation would threaten services, push up costs for customers and could lead to job losses and further post office closures."Royal Mail workers could be set to strike in London next month at plans for thousands of jobs to be cut by the organisation.People in London could be forced to look for alternative parcel delivery options if the strike plans come to fruition.Article Added: 30/04/2009 09:31:35
